Supreme Court earlier today ordered probe against former CBI Director Ranjit Sinha in the infamous coal scam case.

A bench headed by Justice M B Lokur ordered CBI to set up Special Investigation Team (SIT) hoping that the agency would conduct an impartial investigation against CBI’s former boss.

Ranjit Sinha has been alleged for abusing his power as CBI Director to influence the investigation in the coal block allocation case. The SC had stated that it was inappropriate for him to hold meetings with the accused persons in a criminal case at his home. A report by a panel appointed by the Apex court and headed by former CBI special director M L Sharma had suggested that prima facie Ranjit Sinha influenced the investigation of the scam.
